ab [intra], meaning ‘from within’ in Latin is ‘an exploration of our primal instincts, our impulses and our visceral responses’, says choreographer Rafael Bonachela. From tenderness to turmoil, ab [intra] is a journey of intense human existence that will command your attention.
The music fuses lush cello with ambient electronica and the exquisite dancers occupy a visually arresting ethereal world. This is a ferociously physical and heartfelt piece which will stay with you long after you leave the theatre.

Sydney Dance Company’s Secondary school matinees are designed to open the doors to enjoying, understanding and appreciating dance, live performance and the creative choreographic process undertaken by Sydney Dance Company’s Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela and commissioned artists.
Students will experience live performance in a professional theatre setting where they can be entranced by music, lighting and impressive athletic and artistic movement.
On stage demonstrations and discussions are tailored towards curriculum specific learning relating to performance, appreciation and composition. Students will learn how the choreographer or artist chooses and works with stimuli and choreographic process to develop and grow an idea into the unique work they envisioned.
Students will experience a behind-the-scenes look with pre and post show demonstrations and Q&As with Sydney Dance Company’s artistic, production or management teams. Students hear from industry professionals and gain an insight to possible career pathways within dance and arts production. Professionals share insights into the inner workings of Sydney Dance Company beyond the final production giving students a real-world insight into roles such as Choreographer, Dancer, Rehearsal Director, Technical Director, Stage Manager, Producer, Executive Director or Head of Marketing.
