SHEN – Sydney Home Education Network

booking policy - recommended age

A SHEN event is defined as an event organised by the SHEN Committee. The Committee tries to organise events over the course of the year that cater to various age groups. Each event has a recommended age of participants.

Important: It is a parent or guardian’s responsibility to ensure that children booked into an event are in the recommended age group, if that is a booking criteria. In such cases, children outside the recommended age will not be allowed to participate in the event.

It is SHEN’s policy to adhere to the recommended age group stated on an event notice for the following reasons:

  1. Many members attend a SHEN event so that their child can meet other children of a similar age. As a primary aim of SHEN is to facilitate interaction between home educating families, this is best achieved by adhering to recommended ages.
  2. Events aimed at older children may contain themes that might be inappropriate for younger children.
  3. There is often a limit imposed by the performer on the number of attendees. It is only fair that they be offered to those children in the recommended age group first. In this way, over the course of the year, children of all ages will have an opportunity to attend an age appropriate event.
  4. For some events, the Organiser may feel that it would be appropriate for children outside the recommended age group to attend. If so, the Organiser will place those children on a waiting list. The parent/guardian will be notified if a vacancy arises. If a waiting list will operate, this will be stated on the event notice.

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE EVENTS

The recommended age for each event will be stated on the event notice. Children outside this age range can attend the show. The onus is on the parent/guardian to
decide if the content is age appropriate.

OTHER SHEN EVENTS
The recommended age for each event will be stated on the event notice. If children outside this age range can attend, this will be also be stated.
