SHEN is a non-profit support group for home educators in the greater Sydney region The aim of this website is to facilitate communication and interaction amongst home educators in the Sydney and surrounding areas, including Newcastle, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains. The primary aim of the SHEN website is to raise awareness of educational events that have been organised by members that benefit the home educating community. Classes and ExcursionsWe encourage the region's home educators to organise activities and excursions and to submit event details for display on this website. Submission of events is available only to current SHEN subscribers. SHEN members who offer educational services such as music lessons, workshops, curriculum planning can have their event listed under "educational services". Follow the prompts to submit event details so your service can listed on the website. SubscriptionsSubscriptions to the website are available to all home educators at a cost of $15 per calendar year (price current until 16 February, 2009). After that date, the price will be $20 per calendar year. Find out more. SHEN EventsThe Sydney Home Educators Network meets on the third Tuesday of each month. The meetings provide fun educational/activity based presentations that are generally not available to smaller support or family groups. Members can click here for details on upcoming events (bookings are required to the event organiser). SHEN is always on the look out for fun and fascinating shows so please contact us if you have a recommendation or request. Monthly SHEN Events are held in a location as central as possible to the Greater Sydney area. In 2010 SHEN events will be held at Regents Park. Please check Event Details for exact venue location. Event Insurance InformationSHEN does not warrant that events listed on this website are covered by insurance. Parents who are concerned about whether an event has insurance cover need to contact the event organiser and satisfy themselves in this regard. New in 2009 – SHEN Yahoo GroupSHEN members can access the SHEN Yahoo Group. The Group enables members to share information about activities and upcoming events, whether they are strictly for home educators or not; helpful resources, retailers, recommended websites – anything that may be of interest to home educating families. You may also buy/swap/sell items to fellow home educators. The SHEN Yahoo group can be found at http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/sydneyhomeed.
