SUMMARY:Bell Shakespeare Junior Workshop - Introduction to Shakespeare Wed 6th August 9.30am-11.30am (Ages 7-10)
DESCRIPTION:Primary Workshop- Intro into Shakespeare \nTHIS IS A REPEAT OF WORKSHOP HELD IN JULY LAST YEAR.  YOU CAN RE-DO THIS WORKSHOP BUT JUST NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THERE WILL BE OVERLAP WITH WHAT WAS LEARNT LAST YEAR. \n9.30am – 11.30am \nAges 7-10 \nWe believe our journey with Shakespeare should start young. Bell Shakespeare’s Intro to Shakespeare Primary workshop is designed to immerse students in Shakespeare through playful and interactive storytelling. Our teaching artists will take young students on a two-hour narrative journey through some of Shakespeare’s magical array of characters\, from a number of plays. Students will learn about character\, language techniques\, and expanding vocabulary. We’ll intersperse creative and critical thinking activities throughout so you can continue to explore Shakespeare long after we’ve gone. Most importantly\, we will deliver an entertaining\, engaging and informative Shakespeare immersion that will have students on their feet\, speaking and playing with Shakespeare. \nThis workshop has been very kindly subsidised by Bell Shakespeare \nMaximum number of participants – 30 \nWorkshop will be held at Bell Shakespeare premises – Pier 2/3\, Walsh Bay Arts Precinct\, Hickson Road\, Dawes Point (in between The Rocks and Barangaroo) \nPlease note: an accompanying adult and younger (non-participating) siblings are permitted to attend as audience but need to be very quiet (noises\, even whispers\, carry and can be disruptive).  We strongly suggest that if you have younger children\, that you sit outside the room with them as it is difficult for them to be quiet and sit still for the two hours of the workshop.  If you want a chat\, then there are tables and chairs outside the workshop room or outside the pier with beautiful views of the Harbour and lots of restaurants/cafes.  Once you are inside the workshop room\, we respectfully ask that you not move from there as this can be very disruptive for the teacher(s) and the workshop participants.

SUMMARY:‘A Bucket of Beetles’ Puppet Theatre @Sydney Opera House\, Wednesday 4th June\, 2025 - 10am

We will also learn where the clothes will go and who needs them. \nVOLUNTEERING SESSION DETAILS: \nWhen: 9-11am\, Tuesday 3 June (please arrive 5 minutes early so we can start on time) \nWhere: Unit 21\, Discovery Cove Industrial Estate\, 1801 Botany Road\, Banksmeadow (next door to the Discovery Cove Cafe). \n Parking: There are allocated parking bays around the warehouse. There is also plenty of street parking on Botany Road. A parking map is also below. \nAge group of participants: Best for 10yo plus although kids younger may join if you think they will be able to participate. \nWhat to bring:  A full water bottle\, and a positive\, can-do attitude! Please wear comfy clothing and closed toed shoes. \nCost:  $33 per child ($30+GST) \nHow to book: We need to pay as one group so please contact the organiser (a SHEN parent) for payment details – she will then pay on our group’s behalf. \nAbout Thread Together (great to look at with your child before the session): \n https://threadtogether.org/ \nParking map: https://threadtogether.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Thread-Together-Parking-Map-Marked-Up.pdf \nGeneral volunteer FAQs: (note our session is 2hrs not 3.5hrs\, as kids/schools usually do this shorter session) – https://threadtogether.org/volunteer-faqs/ \nHere’s how they describe their work: \nAt Thread Together\, we believe having access to new clothes plays a vital role in restoring dignity and creating brighter futures for those who need it most. \nWe source brand-new excess clothing and shoes from fashion brands and retailers\, and distribute them at no cost to people in our community who are doing it tough\, such as those experiencing homelessness\, survivors of domestic abuse and youth at risk. SUMMARY:'Macbeth' performance @Seymour Centre\, Thursday 25th May 2025 - 10am-Closed
DESCRIPTION:Seymour Centre and Sport for Jove present \nMACBETH\nBy William Shakespeare Recommended for ages 12+. Contains physical violence\, adult themes\, haze smoke\, loud or sudden noises\, strobe lighting and use of prop weapons. \n“What’s done cannot be undone.”\nWatch the premiere of an all-new production of Macbeth – a treat for teachers and students alike. \nAn unexpected prophecy at the close of a devastating war sends a national hero and his brilliant wife on a feverish and murderous quest for absolute power. With startlingly beautiful language\, Shakespeare’s revered tragedy tears open the thin fabric between the temporal and magical worlds. This muscular\, contemporary production looks at today’s world through Macbeth’s eyes – an epoch where doublespeak is rife\, violence is a modern ecstasy and true loyalty is our most valuable commodity. \nShakespeare combines Scottish and English history with Greek myth to one simple end – to capture what it is to be human. What happens to us when we sacrifice our humanity to get ahead? We live in such a time\, an unprecedented era that idolises fame and celebrity above leadership and morality. In such a time and place\, perhaps even nature begins to fight back. \nA boldly imaginative\, fully contemporary and brand new production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth from Sport for Jove that is true to the text and full of engaging revelations\, a wonderful experience for students and teachers. \nThis project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia\, its principal arts investment and advisory body. \nImage credit: Dowling and Dowling Designs \n“Sport for Jove did not disappoint! From the clever set design and the bold direction of the actors\, it was a passionate and powerhouse performance of Macbeth. Thank you for providing another wonderful theatre experience for students.” \nKristy Styman\, Teacher at TLSC Tumbi Umbi Campus \n“A great performance to cap off the students’ studies of ‘Macbeth’. Stagecraft was innovative\, particularly the use of lighting. Students found it engaging and it was certainly a rewarding experience.” \nHelen Tran\, English Teacher at Quakers Hill High School \n“Clear storytelling\, energetic performances\, sharp staging\, great swordplay and intelligent use of the language.” \nShow Duration: approximately 120 minutes with no interval plus a 15-minute post-show Q&A for all daytime performances. \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. Ticket sales will end on 10th of March\, unless sold out beforehand. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).

SUMMARY:'Richard III' - play and lecture @Seymour Centre\, Tuesday 25th March 2025 - 11.30am
DESCRIPTION:Sport for Jove and Seymour Centre present \nRICHARD III\nPlay by William Shakespeare & Lecture Suitable for students in years 9 – 12Contains haze smoke and adult themes. \nSport for Jove’s Richard III play in Sydney returns after a hugely successful season in 2023. Seen through the eyes of Elizabeth I this production gives students an incredible insight into the play and when it was written. \nThis production is an essential tool for students to come to grips with this play’s innate theatricality and plethora of challenging characters when comparing it to Al Pacino’s Looking for Richard. Don’t let your students miss this opportunity to see and hear the play live. \nPeace at last in the land of the free! \nBut while a gruesome war has ended and the world dances\, one dangerous mind is still in the trenches\, his language weaponised and targeted on every point of weakness around him. He will take no prisoners on his rampage to the top. \n“Shoutout to Damien and the team for offering such a stellar production of Richard III. Our students have really profited from such a formative experience and the power of live theatre.” “I can’t tell you how thrilled the students and I were with the performance. I have told everyone who is keen to listen how great the day was!” \nGreg Thomas\, Head Teacher Secondary Studies at The Ponds High School \nNicholas Whittard\, English Teacher at Strathfield Girls High School \nShow Duration: Approximately 150 minutes (including a 30-minute lecture by the Director\, Damien Ryan and Q&A as well as a 15-minute interval). \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. \nTicket sales will end on the 19th of January 2025\, unless sold out beforehand. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).
