SUMMARY:Homeschoolers giving back: Volunteer session at Thread Together
DESCRIPTION:Homeschoolers giving back: Volunteer session at Thread Together \nWhat: One-off volunteering session at NFP Thread Together. The charity receives donations of unsold clothes from big retailers and gets them to Australians in need – after natural disasters\, women and children leaving domestic violence\, and others in crisis. \nDuring the session our group of 20 kids will take the new clothing donated from retailers and sort it into different categories and sizes. Thread Together relies on 6000 volunteers a year to do this! Parents can accompany their child but don’t need to pay. We will also learn where the clothes will go and who needs them. \nVOLUNTEERING SESSION DETAILS: \nWhen: 9-11am\, Tuesday 3 June (please arrive 5 minutes early so we can start on time) \nWhere: Unit 21\, Discovery Cove Industrial Estate\, 1801 Botany Road\, Banksmeadow (next door to the Discovery Cove Cafe). \n Parking: There are allocated parking bays around the warehouse. There is also plenty of street parking on Botany Road. A parking map is also below. \nAge group of participants: Best for 10yo plus although kids younger may join if you think they will be able to participate. \nWhat to bring:  A full water bottle\, and a positive\, can-do attitude! Please wear comfy clothing and closed toed shoes. \nCost:  $33 per child ($30+GST) \nHow to book: We need to pay as one group so please contact the organiser (a SHEN parent) for payment details – she will then pay on our group’s behalf. \nAbout Thread Together (great to look at with your child before the session): \n https://threadtogether.org/ \nParking map: https://threadtogether.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Thread-Together-Parking-Map-Marked-Up.pdf \nGeneral volunteer FAQs: (note our session is 2hrs not 3.5hrs\, as kids/schools usually do this shorter session) – https://threadtogether.org/volunteer-faqs/ \nHere’s how they describe their work: \nAt Thread Together\, we believe having access to new clothes plays a vital role in restoring dignity and creating brighter futures for those who need it most. \nWe source brand-new excess clothing and shoes from fashion brands and retailers\, and distribute them at no cost to people in our community who are doing it tough\, such as those experiencing homelessness\, survivors of domestic abuse and youth at risk. We also support individuals and families affected by natural disasters.

SUMMARY:‘A Bucket of Beetles’ Puppet Theatre @Sydney Opera House\, Wednesday 4th June\, 2025 - 10am
DESCRIPTION:A Bucket of Beetles\nFriendship\, adventure and magical bugs\nWehea is a little boy who lives in a big rainforest. Just like many other people who live there\, he has a special connection with nature. Even the smallest beings in the forest are his friends. One day\, Wehea meets a very special beetle – a rhinoceros beetle – and together they embark on an epic\, life-changing adventure. \nBased on a story told by a four-year-old boy (all of the animal puppet designs in the show are based on his drawings) A Bucket of Beetles is more than just a story of a beautiful friendship. It’s a story about learning to appreciate the small things to then be able to appreciate bigger things. \nFollowing successful tours across the US\, Netherlands\, Japan\, South Korea\, Malaysia and Singapore\, Papermoon Puppet Theatre now brings this mesmerising show to the Sydney Opera House\, for the first time for students of all ages from Stage 1 upwards. \n“The standard of puppetry is extraordinary. The energy and artistic integrity of this company shines through in every scene.” \n\nAbout Papermoon Puppet Theatre\n\nPapermoon Puppet Theatre was founded in April 2006 in Yogyakarta\, Indonesia by Co-Artistic Director Maria Tri Sulistyani (Ria). She has since nurtured\, developed and expanded the company together with Co-Artistic Director Iwan Effendi\, a visual artist and Papermoon’s puppet designer. Among other close collaborators\, we work with a collective of puppeteers\, which includes Anton Fajri\, Pambo Priyojati\, Beni Sanjaya\, Muhammad Alhaq and Hardiansyah Yoga. \nTo date\, Papermoon Puppet Theatre has created more than 30 puppet performances and visual art installations and exhibitions\, and have toured to more than 10 countries. In 2008\, they launched Pesta Boneka\, an international puppet biennale that welcomes puppeteers from around the world to Yogyakarta\, where they can share their work in a community setting. \nThe show duration is 65 minutes (50 minutes performance and 15 minutes Q&A). \nConsider purchasing the accompanying Shadow Puppetry workshop on Wednesday 4th June at 12.30pm for an additional $15.50. \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).
