SUMMARY:Sydney Dance Company performance of 'Current' - Wednesday 16th September\, 2026 11am - for upper Primary School & High School\, 9yrs - 18yrs
DESCRIPTION:Sydney Dance Company performance of ‘Current’ – Wednesday 16th September\, 2026 11am – for upper Primary School & High School\, 9yrs – 18yrs \nat the Sydney Dance Company\, Nielson Studio \nCURRENT  threads together three new commissions from leading Australian choreographers\, Raghav Handa\, Jenni Large and Azzam Mohamed\, with the Australian premiere of Rafael Bonachela’s seminal work E2 7SD. Together these four artists form a compelling portrait of contemporary Australian dance — diverse in form\, voice and perspective\, yet united by curiosity and originality of expression. \nCreated in London in 2004\, E2 7SD is the award-winning work that defined Bonachela’s signature choreographic style and put him on the world stage\, winning over audiences and achieving critical acclaim. Never performed before in Australia\, this momentous anniversary feels like the perfect time to share this dynamic\, high-energy duet. \nWe have commissioned some of Australia’s most exciting choreographers to present new works that will join E2 7SD on stage as part of one seamless experience. Creating alongside Bonachela is Raghav Handa\, our 2025 Balnaves Artist in Residence\, whose work draws on the principles of Indian kathak to explore multifaceted expressions of contemporary Australian identity; Jenni Large\, a New Breed alum and our 2026 Balnaves Artist in Residence\, who creates work infused with hyper-design and apparatus\, inspired by the personal\, political and transformational forces of the body; and Azzam Mohamed (Shazam)\, a Sydney-based Sudanese dancer\, choreographer and educator\, whose practice spans a rich blend of traditional cultural\, street and club dance forms. \nPlease note that the School Matinee performances may not include both works. \nPerformance duration: TBA  \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. \nTicket sales will end on the 19th August\, unless sold out beforehand. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).

SUMMARY:‘Macbeth' Tabletop Shakespeare @Sydney Opera House\, Tuesday 22nd September\, 11.30am
DESCRIPTION:Sydney Opera House in conjunction with Forced Entertainment present \nTabletop Shakespeare: Macbeth\nShakespeare comes to life with miniature everyday objects \nFrom internationally renowned Forced Entertainment theatre company\, enter a playful pared-back world where Shakespeare’s most iconic stories are reimagined using only household objects and a tabletop. \nIn Table Top Shakespeare\, a jam jar might duel a shampoo bottle\, a cheese grater could plot revenge and a wooden spoon might fall in love—all in the space of up to an hour. \nGuided by a skilled narrator-performer\, students are drawn into the drama\, comedy and tragedy of Shakespeare’s classics in a fresh visual way that provides a new illumination on Shakespearian language and makes the stories feel anew. \nWith humour\, simplicity and imagination\, each performance invites students to rediscover well-known characters and plots in surprising and memorable ways. \nThese unique performances encourage students to think creatively\, explore symbolism and appreciate the power of storytelling with limited means. Ideal for secondary school audiences\, it highlights how theatre can thrive with nothing more than a table\, a few objects and a great story. \nForced Entertainment present for students a cavalcade of the classics Rome and Juliet\, Macbeth\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, and Hamlet. School groups may join us for only one performance or stay for a deep immersive morning of Shakespeare with 2-3 performances and a Q&A with the artists after the 1pm performance. \nWhat to expect\nStudents will experience: \n\nIconic stories are reimagined using only household objects and a tabletop.
