SUMMARY:Sydney Dance Company performance of 'Current' - Wednesday 16th September\, 2026 11am - for upper Primary School & High School\, 9yrs - 18yrs
DESCRIPTION:Sydney Dance Company performance of ‘Current’ – Wednesday 16th September\, 2026 11am – for upper Primary School & High School\, 9yrs – 18yrs \nat the Sydney Dance Company\, Nielson Studio \nCURRENT  threads together three new commissions from leading Australian choreographers\, Raghav Handa\, Jenni Large and Azzam Mohamed\, with the Australian premiere of Rafael Bonachela’s seminal work E2 7SD. Together these four artists form a compelling portrait of contemporary Australian dance — diverse in form\, voice and perspective\, yet united by curiosity and originality of expression. \nCreated in London in 2004\, E2 7SD is the award-winning work that defined Bonachela’s signature choreographic style and put him on the world stage\, winning over audiences and achieving critical acclaim. Never performed before in Australia\, this momentous anniversary feels like the perfect time to share this dynamic\, high-energy duet. \nWe have commissioned some of Australia’s most exciting choreographers to present new works that will join E2 7SD on stage as part of one seamless experience. Creating alongside Bonachela is Raghav Handa\, our 2025 Balnaves Artist in Residence\, whose work draws on the principles of Indian kathak to explore multifaceted expressions of contemporary Australian identity; Jenni Large\, a New Breed alum and our 2026 Balnaves Artist in Residence\, who creates work infused with hyper-design and apparatus\, inspired by the personal\, political and transformational forces of the body; and Azzam Mohamed (Shazam)\, a Sydney-based Sudanese dancer\, choreographer and educator\, whose practice spans a rich blend of traditional cultural\, street and club dance forms. \nPlease note that the School Matinee performances may not include both works. \nPerformance duration: TBA  \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. \nTicket sales will end on the 19th August\, unless sold out beforehand. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).

SUMMARY:Junior Herbalist Club
DESCRIPTION:Junior Herbalist Club (JHC) is a 1-3 year extracurricular course for children (aged 7+) which runs for 90 minutes\, once a month\, for 10 months of the year. \nJunior Herbalist Club has been designed to engage and educate children\, on a journey of discovery through play to learn about the healing and medicinal plants all around them in a safe and supervised environment. The course covertly incorporates core subjects including English\, Maths\, Biology\, Chemistry\, Botany\, Latin and Cookery\, as well as helps children to gain in confidence\, improve fine motor control and develop a new skill set. \nEach month the children learn about the medicinal uses of plants and make something to take home (lavender bags\, lip balms\, bath bombs and much more!!). JHC has been planned so that each month the children build on their knowledge and skills. In the second year\, the tasks become more complex\, building on the skill set developed in the first year. At the end of each session the children are given a worksheet to complete so they can develop a portfolio of learning. \nThe course includes: \n\nIdentification of common herbs growing all around\nSafety – which herbs are safe to use and which are poisonous\nFolklore – taught through stories and songs\nHow to grow and harvest herbs\nMedicinal uses of common herbs\nHow to use a variety of common herbs for first aid\nHow to make a variety of herbal preparations to keep and take home\nRespect for all plants and their environment\n\nJHC was created and developed by Medical Herbalist Mel Hornby and has been delivering herbal education to children in the UK since 2014\, and is now available in Australia for the first time. \nHere is some feedback from previous years: \n“I really enjoyed learning the different uses of herbs and about the variety of plants\, especially the ones that are often considered weeds\, and are actually beneficial and can be used in a number of ways. I liked how we would make things at the end of the lesson to show us how to put the properties of the plant into practice. I liked how the classes were set outside and how they were practical. The plants weren’t just pictures in a book. We could see\, touch and smell them. I liked how each week was a different plant or two. Made it easy to focus on rather than just having a brief overview on a bunch of things.” ~Allie \n“I have learnt about how plants and nature can help us to heal our bodies\, and that we can make our own medicines without going to the doctor for everything. I enjoyed watching Virginia prepare and cook the herbs to make medicines from nature\, and learning in a group with other homeschoolers. I would recommend other children come to JHC next year because in every class there is something new that you will find out about. Also you get to take something home at the end of every class – that the group has made.” ~Eloise \n \n  \n  \nVirginia Maddock has been a qualified herbalist since 2000 and will be continuing this wonderful education in plant healing for children in the Sutherland Shire\, starting in February. (Other areas will be considered with appropriate numbers of bookings\, so get in contact and get a group together!). \nCost is $400 per year (or 4 x $120 paid each term). Monthly on Thursdays in Caringbah South at 10:30am-12pm (numbers dependent). \n  \n  \n  \nDates:\nFebruary 19\nMarch 19\nApril 23\nMay 21\nJune 18\nJuly 23\nAugust 20\nSeptember 17\nOctober 15\nNovember 19 \nEmail: virginia@naturalbeginnings.com.au for enquiries and expressions of interest.

SUMMARY:Bell Shakespeare Junior Drama Workshop - Tues 3rd November\, 2026 10.30am-12.30pm (Ages 7-12)
DESCRIPTION:Primary Workshop- Intro into Shakespeare \nTHIS IS A REPEAT OF WORKSHOP HELD THE PREVIOUS TWO YEARS.   \nPLEASE NOTE THAT BELL SHAKESPEARE HAS SAID THEY ARE HAPPY TO DIVIDE GROUP UP INTO TWO GROUPS DEPENDING ON HOW MANY NEW STUDENTS AND HOW MANY RETURNING STUDENTS WITH SLIGHTLY MODIFIED WORK.  NEARER TO THE DATE OF THE WORKSHOP\, I WILL SURVEY ATTENDEES SO BELL SHAKESPEARE CAN MAKE THE BEST DECISION REGARDING THIS.  \n10.30am-12.30pm \nAges 7-12 \nWe believe our journey with Shakespeare should start young. Bell Shakespeare’s Intro to Shakespeare Primary workshop is designed to immerse students in Shakespeare through playful and interactive storytelling. Our teaching artists will take young students on a two-hour narrative journey through some of Shakespeare’s magical array of characters\, from a number of plays. Students will learn about character\, language techniques\, and expanding vocabulary. We’ll intersperse creative and critical thinking activities throughout so you can continue to explore Shakespeare long after we’ve gone. Most importantly\, we will deliver an entertaining\, engaging and informative Shakespeare immersion that will have students on their feet\, speaking and playing with Shakespeare. \nThis workshop has been very kindly subsidised by Bell Shakespeare \nWorkshop will be held at Bell Shakespeare premises – Pier 2/3\, Walsh Bay Arts Precinct\, Hickson Road\, Dawes Point (in between The Rocks and Barangaroo) \nPlease note: an accompanying adult and younger (non-participating) siblings are permitted to attend as audience but need to be very quiet (noises\, even whispers\, carry and can be disruptive).  We strongly suggest that if you have younger children\, that you sit outside the room with them as it is difficult for them to be quiet and sit still for the two hours of the workshop.  If you want a chat\, then there are tables and chairs outside the workshop room or outside the pier with beautiful views of the Harbour and lots of restaurants/cafes.  Once you are inside the workshop room\, we respectfully ask that you not move from there as this can be very disruptive for the teacher(s) and the workshop participants.

DESCRIPTION:Upper Primary / Secondary Workshop- Macbeth \n(Please note you could attend both Bell Shakespeare workshops on the day) \n1.30pm – 3.30pm \nAges 11 – 15 \nThis is an active literacy and drama session on the play ‘Macbeth’ combining language and character analysis for Years 5-10.  Focus will be on familiarisation with the play\, consideration of plot\, characterisation\, key concepts and timeless relevance of the play as well as dramatic devices utilised to bring the play to life for performers and audiences. \nWe believe our journey with Shakespeare should start young. Bell Shakespeare’s Intro to Shakespeare Primary workshop is designed to immerse students in Shakespeare through playful and interactive storytelling. Our teaching artists will take young students on a two-hour narrative journey in an introduction to Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth.’ Students will learn about character\, language techniques\, and expanding vocabulary. \nThis workshop has been very kindly subsidised by Bell Shakespeare \n  \nThe workshop will be held at Bell Shakespeare premises – Pier 2/3\, Walsh Bay Arts Precinct\, Hickson Road\, Dawes Point (in between The Rocks and Barangaroo) \nPlease note: an accompanying adult and younger (non-participating) siblings are permitted to attend as audience but need to be very quiet (noises\, even whispers\, carry and can be disruptive). Once you are inside the workshop room\, we respectfully ask that you not move from there as this can be very disruptive for the teacher(s) and the workshop participants

DESCRIPTION:Seymour Centre and Poetry in Action present \nWill and Ed Make Words Do Good Stuff\nPrimary School Workshop for Stages 2 and 3 \nWannabe influencers Will and Ed have cracked the code to going viral: let AI churn out the content and count the likes. It works\, until it doesn’t. When their latest post flops spectacularly\, a mysterious internet pop-up drags them out of their feed and into their own memories\, where every lazy shortcut and every borrowed idea is waiting for them. The only way out is through poetry. To escape\, Will and Ed must master its four building blocks – rhyme\, rhythm\, imagery and theme – and use each one to put their own experience into words that are truly theirs. \nFunny\, fast and unexpectedly moving\, this three-hander from Poetry in Action tackles the question every classroom is now asking: what is left for us to make when a machine can make it faster? Through classic and contemporary poems performed at full tilt\, students discover how poets build meaning line by line\, and why real creativity cannot be outsourced. Every performance is followed by a live Q&A with the actors. \nWritten by Sam O’Sullivan and Bryce Youngman and directed by Jo Turner\, the show comes with a free teacher’s resource pack for every Seymour Centre booking\, aligned to ACARA and NESA English outcomes. \nPoetry in Action is a Sydney-based theatre-in-education company that has toured curriculum-aligned poetry performances to schools across Australia and New Zealand for 20 years\, reaching more than one million students. \n  \nDuration: 60 minutes plus a 15 minute post show Q & A.  \nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. \nTicket sales will end on the 31st January 2026\, unless sold out beforehand. \nPlease ensure you choose the correct ticket option when you are paying.  People choosing Companion Card ticket must email a copy of the Companion Card to SHEN immediately after booking ticket(s).
