DESCRIPTION:Art Day at NSW Art Gallery for Years 3-6\, Wednesday 17th June\, 2026\, 10am – 2pm \nThe Day is divided into two parts: \nLEARNING TOUR (10am – 11.30am) \nA bushranger’s tale: exploring history through art\nAligned with NSW History and Creative Arts K–6 curriculum outcomes\, this tour explores how Australian artists have captured stories of people\, place and identity. Through close looking\, storytelling and discussion\, students will consider how artists bring the past to life and how artworks can be both personal expression and historical evidence. \nThis authentic encounter with art supports curriculum outcomes and fosters lasting curiosity and appreciation for art. \nStudents will: \n\nrecognise how artists tell stories from Australia’s past through visual language\nunderstand how bushrangers became part of Australia’s national story through art and storytelling\nexplore how landscape painting shaped the way Australians imagine the land and their connection to it\nconsider whose stories are told and whose are missing from the historical record.\n\nART WORKSHOP (12.30pm – 2pm) \nThe artist’s studio\nIn this dynamic workshop\, students build skills in exploring ideas\, making informed choices with materials\, and reflecting on their creative process. Led by Art Gallery educators and inspired by artworks from the Art Gallery’s collection\, students develop visual literacy and confidence as they experiment with techniques and express personal meaning through their art. \nThis hands-on experience supports creative thinking and encourages each student to see themselves as an artist. \nStudents will: \n\nexplore how artists use subject matter\, materials and techniques to communicate ideas\nexperiment with a range of materials and processes to create their own artworks\nreflect on their art-making choices and the meaning in their own and others’ work\nshare and discuss their artworks\, recognising how art can express ideas\, experiences and connections to the world around them.\n\nYOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS. \nEVERY PERSON ATTENDING MUST HAVE A TICKET.  Parents can book accompanying free ticket.  Please note only one parent per family group. \nPLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY.
