SUMMARY:Future Health Worldbuilding Competition 2025 - Info sessions 30th Aug & 10 Sept
DESCRIPTION:This year\, NSW Health is inviting students across the state to take on a unique and imaginative competition:\nto step into the future and decide what comes next.\nThe Future Health Worldbuilding Competition 2025 is a call to action for young people to explore their creativity\, critical thinking\, and sense of social responsibility. \nWorldbuilding is the practice of imagining\, designing\, and communicating the systems\, values\, and environments of an alternative or future world. It draws on skills in storytelling\, systems thinking\, ethics\, and innovation which are all essential for thinking critically and creatively about change. \nStudents in Years 7-10 are invited to imagine and create a vision of a future healthcare system. Through art\, writing\, video\, storytelling\, design\, or prototypes\, they’ll craft their own future world where care is re-imagined for people\, communities\, and the planet. \nTheir ideas won’t be graded but they’ll be taken seriously. Submissions will help inform NSW Health’s strategic planning. Finalists will attend a Future Health Symposium at Westmead in Term 4\, and winners will be offered a bespoke\, behind-the-scenes tour of an innovative health care space and other great prizes. \nWhere it links to learning \nStudents will naturally draw on knowledge and skills from: \n\nScience – understanding systems\, health\, and the role of innovation\nPDHPE – exploring wellbeing\, care equity\, and community health\nTechnology – applying design thinking and digital creativity\nEnglish – crafting compelling narratives and persuasive ideas\nCareers & Civics – imagining their future role in public life and shared systems\n\n  \nIt’s also tightly aligned with NSW General Capabilities and IB Approaches to Learning\, from creative and critical thinking to communication and intercultural understanding.  How to get involved: \nSupport your students – share the website with them. Encourage them to watch the supporting materials and access the Canva workbook. \nJoin our Live Info Session – we’ve got two upcoming sessions… Sat 30th August 1-2pm and Wed 10th Sept 5-6pm.\nGet all your questions answered\, hear from the organisers\, and learn how easy it is to support students through this challenge. \nRegister for updates – Stay in the loop with reminders\, resources\, and inspiration to share with your students. Register here.

SUMMARY:Homeschoolers giving back: Volunteer session at Thread Together
DESCRIPTION:Homeschoolers giving back: Volunteer session at Thread Together \nWhat: One-off volunteering session at NFP Thread Together. The charity receives donations of unsold clothes from big retailers and gets them to Australians in need – after natural disasters\, women and children leaving domestic violence\, and others in crisis. \nDuring the session our group of 20 kids will take the new clothing donated from retailers and sort it into different categories and sizes. Thread Together relies on 6000 volunteers a year to do this! Parents can accompany their child but don’t need to pay. We will also learn where the clothes will go and who needs them. \nVOLUNTEERING SESSION DETAILS: \nWhen: 9-11am\, Tuesday 3 June (please arrive 5 minutes early so we can start on time) \nWhere: Unit 21\, Discovery Cove Industrial Estate\, 1801 Botany Road\, Banksmeadow (next door to the Discovery Cove Cafe). \n Parking: There are allocated parking bays around the warehouse. There is also plenty of street parking on Botany Road. A parking map is also below. \nAge group of participants: Best for 10yo plus although kids younger may join if you think they will be able to participate. \nWhat to bring:  A full water bottle\, and a positive\, can-do attitude! Please wear comfy clothing and closed toed shoes. \nCost:  $33 per child ($30+GST) \nHow to book: We need to pay as one group so please contact the organiser (a SHEN parent) for payment details – she will then pay on our group’s behalf. \nAbout Thread Together (great to look at with your child before the session): \n https://threadtogether.org/ \nParking map: https://threadtogether.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Thread-Together-Parking-Map-Marked-Up.pdf \nGeneral volunteer FAQs: (note our session is 2hrs not 3.5hrs\, as kids/schools usually do this shorter session) – https://threadtogether.org/volunteer-faqs/ \nHere’s how they describe their work: \nAt Thread Together\, we believe having access to new clothes plays a vital role in restoring dignity and creating brighter futures for those who need it most. \nWe source brand-new excess clothing and shoes from fashion brands and retailers\, and distribute them at no cost to people in our community who are doing it tough\, such as those experiencing homelessness\, survivors of domestic abuse and youth at risk. We also support individuals and families affected by natural disasters.

SUMMARY:Homeschool Barter & Trade Market Day - Mon 9th & Fri 13th
DESCRIPTION:Our Permaculture Hawkesbury Valley Inc. Homeschooling program classes are holding barter and trade market day for the last classes of term. We would like to invite anyone from the homeschooling community to come along and join in the fun.\n\n\nThe event will be set up like a market and children will have the opportunity to barter and trade their goodies with one another.\n\n\nThis is a ticketed event with a limited number of tickets available. Tickets are just $5 per household. with all proceeds going towards finishing our shaded outdoor classroom.\n\n\n\nLink to event-\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/1073881361059…\n\n\n\nOur barter and trade market days help consolidate our learnings of the three permaculture ethics of Earth Care\, People Care and Fare Share.\n\n\nA barter and trade market aligns beautifully with the three core permaculture ethics—\nEarth Care\, People Care\, and Fair Share:\n1. Earth Care: Bartering encourages the reuse and sharing of resources\, which reduces waste and lessens our environmental footprint. By trading goods instead of buying new ones\, we minimize the need for new products and resources\, supporting sustainability and protecting the Earth\n2. People Care: Bartering brings people together\, fostering a supportive community where everyone can access what they need. It promotes face-to-face interactions and relationships\, which helps create a strong\, interdependent network. This directly supports the principle of caring for one another’s well-being\n3. Fair Share: Barter and trade markets embody the idea of “returning surplus” by sharing goods or skills that might be in excess. They allow people to share what they have with others who may need it\, ensuring that resources are fairly distributed and accessible to everyone\, rather than hoarded or wasted.\nA barter and trade meet is a practical way to live out permaculture principles by creating a more resilient\, resourceful\, and connected community.\n\n\nSome key information to help the event run smoothly…\nApproved trade items for our trade meet are-\nVeggies\nFruit\nNuts\nHerbs\nHoney\nEggs\nPreserves/preserving jars/preserving pots\nHome grown livestock\nBaked goods\nHome made cleaning products\nHomemade beauty/bathroom products\nHomemade household/garden items\nBeeswax wraps\nHomemade clothing\nHomemade jewellery\nSeedlings\nSeeds\nManure\nGardening equipment\nWorms\nWorm farms\nComposting items\n\n\nPlease note we do not allow-\n•Store bought produce (unless turned into a homemade preserve)\n•Store bought goods (such as toys\, clothing\, books\, food items\, crockery etc..)\n•Sale of goods for money\n\n\nTABLE & CHAIR- Please bring your own picnic table and chair or picnic blanket to display your items on.
