SUMMARY:Speaking Circle - South-East Sydney
DESCRIPTION:Our Speaking Circle is now underway\, and we are welcoming new children to join us from our next meeting on Thursday 6th August. \nSpeaking Circle is inspired by the Toastmasters approach and provides a supportive environment where children develop confidence in public speaking by speaking regularly\, listening actively and giving constructive feedback. \nEach meeting includes:\n• Prepared speeches\n• Impromptu speaking (“thinking on your feet”)\n• Short meeting roles that develop listening and observation skills\n• Constructive speech evaluations\n• A friendly atmosphere where children are encouraged to participate at their own pace \nSpeaking Circle is suitable for children and teens who would like to become more confident communicators. New speakers are very welcome\, and no previous public speaking experience is needed. \nPublic speaking is one of the few activities where age is not a reliable measure of ability. Children and teens of different ages can inspire\, challenge and learn from one another. I would particularly love to see more homeschooled teens join the group. \nDetails\n📍 Carss Park Lifesaving Hall (we can hang out in the beautiful park with a cafe after)\n🗓 Thursdays\, 10:00–11:30 am\n📅 Next meeting: 6th August\n💲 $16.25 per session (term enrolment available\, sibling pricing available) \nCurrently we meet fortnightly. If the group continues to grow\, I would love to offer weekly meetings\, with families free to attend either weekly or fortnightly\, whatever suits them. \nIf your child enjoys sharing ideas\, telling stories\, thinking on their feet\, or simply wants to become a more confident speaker\, I’d love to hear from you. Please send me a message with your child’s age if you’d like more information or to reserve a place.

SUMMARY:Junior Herbalist Club
DESCRIPTION:Junior Herbalist Club (JHC) is a 1-3 year extracurricular course for children (aged 7+) which runs for 90 minutes\, once a month\, for 10 months of the year. \nJunior Herbalist Club has been designed to engage and educate children\, on a journey of discovery through play to learn about the healing and medicinal plants all around them in a safe and supervised environment. The course covertly incorporates core subjects including English\, Maths\, Biology\, Chemistry\, Botany\, Latin and Cookery\, as well as helps children to gain in confidence\, improve fine motor control and develop a new skill set. \nEach month the children learn about the medicinal uses of plants and make something to take home (lavender bags\, lip balms\, bath bombs and much more!!). JHC has been planned so that each month the children build on their knowledge and skills. In the second year\, the tasks become more complex\, building on the skill set developed in the first year. At the end of each session the children are given a worksheet to complete so they can develop a portfolio of learning. \nThe course includes: \n\nIdentification of common herbs growing all around\nSafety – which herbs are safe to use and which are poisonous\nFolklore – taught through stories and songs\nHow to grow and harvest herbs\nMedicinal uses of common herbs\nHow to use a variety of common herbs for first aid\nHow to make a variety of herbal preparations to keep and take home\nRespect for all plants and their environment\n\nJHC was created and developed by Medical Herbalist Mel Hornby and has been delivering herbal education to children in the UK since 2014\, and is now available in Australia for the first time. \nHere is some feedback from previous years: \n“I really enjoyed learning the different uses of herbs and about the variety of plants\, especially the ones that are often considered weeds\, and are actually beneficial and can be used in a number of ways. I liked how we would make things at the end of the lesson to show us how to put the properties of the plant into practice. I liked how the classes were set outside and how they were practical. The plants weren’t just pictures in a book. We could see\, touch and smell them. I liked how each week was a different plant or two. Made it easy to focus on rather than just having a brief overview on a bunch of things.” ~Allie \n“I have learnt about how plants and nature can help us to heal our bodies\, and that we can make our own medicines without going to the doctor for everything. I enjoyed watching Virginia prepare and cook the herbs to make medicines from nature\, and learning in a group with other homeschoolers. I would recommend other children come to JHC next year because in every class there is something new that you will find out about. Also you get to take something home at the end of every class – that the group has made.” ~Eloise \n \n  \n  \nVirginia Maddock has been a qualified herbalist since 2000 and will be continuing this wonderful education in plant healing for children in the Sutherland Shire\, starting in February. (Other areas will be considered with appropriate numbers of bookings\, so get in contact and get a group together!). \nCost is $400 per year (or 4 x $120 paid each term). Monthly on Thursdays in Caringbah South at 10:30am-12pm (numbers dependent). \n  \n  \n  \nDates:\nFebruary 19\nMarch 19\nApril 23\nMay 21\nJune 18\nJuly 23\nAugust 20\nSeptember 17\nOctober 15\nNovember 19 \nEmail: virginia@naturalbeginnings.com.au for enquiries and expressions of interest.

SUMMARY:Hazelhurst connect and create art workshop
DESCRIPTION:Create and Connect: Home School Edition (Ages 7 to 12) supports homeschooled students to think critically\, create confidently and connect with others in a professional gallery setting. \nSessions begin with guided exploration of current exhibitions\, where students analyse artworks\, discuss artistic techniques and consider themes and ideas. These conversations build visual literacy\, interpretation skills and confidence in expressing informed opinions. \nIn the studio\, students extend their learning through hands-on artmaking\, experimenting with materials and processes to develop their own creative responses. Projects are designed to strengthen technical skills\, conceptual thinking and reflective practice. \nCreate & Connect complements home learning by combining structured creative development with meaningful peer interaction — encouraging students to deepen their artistic skills while engaging thoughtfully with contemporary art. \nWhen: Last Thursday of the Month\nTime: 1pm to 3pm\nCost: $20.00 per child
