SUMMARY:NSW Art Gallery Learning Tour & Workshop - Tues 9th Sept
DESCRIPTION:NSW Art Gallery learning tour and Workshop: Yolgnu PowerTuesday 9th September\, 2025 For primary Students – Stages 2-3   Tour (10am – 11.30am) For almost 100 years\, artists at Yirrkala have shared art as a means of cultural diplomacy – as a respectful assertion of power in its diverse forms\, from sovereignty to influence\, authority and control\, to energy\, strength and pride. Yolŋu power presents an opportunity to explore this art and its power to entice us into the Yolŋu world. In this learning tour\, students get up close to artworks and learn about the significant moments in Yirrkala’s history when artists have consciously altered their practice\, developed new styles or embraced new mediums. Led by an Art Gallery educator\, this interactive session includes exhibition entry and is adapted for primary and secondary stages and their relevant curriculum outcomes.   Workshop (12.30pm – 2pm) Led by an Art Gallery educator\, students engage with works of art in the exhibition\, learn about Yolŋu art and culture\, and experiment with materials and techniques to create new work inspired by the artistic practices from Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land\, Northern Territory. This hands-on workshop includes exhibition entry and is designed for both primary and secondary students with stage appropriate curriculum outcomes for making and responding. Parents are permitted to attend for free (please select parent free ticket).  Please do not bring younger siblings to the tour and workshop (if you need to\, there is plenty to do in and around the Art Gallery) Each session is 1 ½ hours in duration   YOU MUST BE A SHEN MEMBER TO BOOK TICKETS.  PLEASE ONLY BOOK FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY.
